Abstract
The rapid advancement of digital technology and the increasing demands for 21st-century competencies have encouraged Islamic educational institutions to transform their pedagogical approaches while preserving religious values. This study aimed to examine the transformation of Islamic education through pedagogical innovation at SMP Muhammadiyah 9 South Jakarta, particularly in integrating Islamic values, the Kurikulum Merdeka (Independent Curriculum), and innovative learning practices. A descriptive qualitative approach with a case study design was employed. Data were collected through document analysis and literature reviews related to curriculum implementation, school culture, and innovations in Islamic education. The collected data were analyzed using thematic analysis to identify patterns of transformation within Islamic educational practices. The findings indicated that SMP Muhammadiyah 9 South Jakarta developed an integrative Islamic education model by combining curriculum design, religious habituation, character development, project-based learning, and digital technology integration. Islamic values functioned not only as instructional content but also as a foundational framework shaping the overall educational environment. This study suggests that contextual and innovative Islamic education practices can support the development of students’ religious character, social awareness, and 21st-century competencies. The findings provide practical insights for Islamic schools seeking to develop adaptive, value-based, and sustainable educational models within urban contexts.
